Kinja'd!!!

Today is the day our 85,000lb excavator moved to a new jobsite. I took a few pictures showing the process of moving such a large machine. Enjoy!

Kinja'd!!!

Lowboy trailer detached from the 5th wheel to load from the front.

Kinja'd!!!

Loading.

Kinja'd!!!

The tracks stick out the side a considerable amount, making this a very wide load.

Kinja'd!!!

The law requires an escort to stay in front of the truck all the way to the site. Every time it moves, we have to go through this whole ordeal. Roughly 40 metric tons of steel flying down the freeway.

Always give trucks like this plenty of space because as you could guess, it’s pretty hard to stop 110,000 pounds.

It would be cool if there was a heavy machinery Jalopnik sub-blog.

Is excavator the proper term for those machines? I’ve always heard them called Track Hoes.

Cool machine, though. I would love to operate it for a bit. Dig a big hole. *I’m childish like that.

Excavator is the proper term but, track hoe is the universally accepted term.

They are fun, so I completely understand.
